THE FABULOUS FACE OF THE FUTURE ARIANE’S TOP 10 MAKE-UP TIPS |
| |
As we get older, of course our skin and colouring changes. So make-up which looked great in your 20s, 30s and even 40s is not quite as flattering.
Don’t despair. A quick overhaul of your make-up bag and some tricks-of-the-trade will soon have you looking glam.
|
| |
| 1. |
LIPS. Lips lose their fullness with age. Always use a nude lip liner to define – no matter what colour your lipstick. Opt for a sheer texture or gloss, avoiding anything too dark or matte. |
| |
| 2. |
PLUMPER. Check out the new lip-plumping primers – they really do work, although you feel the bee-stung sensation to match the effect. |
| |
| 3. |
BROWS. Have your eyebrows shaped professionally – this can be as good as a mini-facelift. As we age, brows become sparser and colour fades, so gently defining with an eyebrow powder or pencil is a ‘must’. |
| |
| 4. |
LASHES. Always curl your eyelashes. The new heated curlers are fantastic. Use after applying mascara because this acts as a setting lotion. |
| |
| 5. |
PRIMER. Ditch your powder and invest in a primer. A skin illuminator does just what it says. A tiny amount, mixed with a little foundation or concealer, gives the complexion a dewy glow. |
| |
| 6. |
FOUNDATION. Avoid those with a matt finish – and consider switching to a tinted moisturiser. Only apply foundation where you need it, to even out skin tone. Most women don’t need it on their forehead. |
| |
| 7. |
BLUSHER. Another ‘must’. Steer clear of browns and pastel shades (which drain the complexion) – opting instead for peach, apricot and rosy pinks. Choose a cream formula rather than powder which can ´sit´ on dry skin. |
| |
| 8. |
COLOUR. Test foundation colour on your chin. If you can’t see it, then it’s the right colour. Don’t be tempted to alter your skin colour with foundation unless you tan your body but not your face. The rule is: face and neck colour must match. |
| |
| 9. |
EYE-SHADOW. Swap your brown and neutral eye-shadows (which can make you look tired) for sheer textured plums, lilacs and purples. Not only do they suit all skin tones, they make the whites of the eyes look whiter. |
| |
| 10. |
SPLURGE. It’s worth spending that little bit extra on primers, concealers, foundations – and saving on the colour cosmetics. There are some lovely eye-shadows, blushers and lipsticks to be found in mass market brands, so you can afford to be adventurous and experiment. |
